The atlas was fitted to Capris... depending on which model capri there are different widths.. 48" is a baby atlas, 50" on a mk1 i think and 52" on mk2/3. 52" is the right width for a mk1/2 escoprt with arches. if you get one off a 2.8i special or a brooklands 280 they come with an LSD in them, but it's probably going to be pretty knackered by now. i think the baby axles are specially made rather than standard equipment on anything. 48" is the size you want for an unarched escort

I'm not sure if they were fitted to anything else... definitely not mk1/2 escorts as they all came with the weak English axle. There's another type of axle which looks similar to an atlas (i.e. removal back cover etc) but is actually an English one as well. The was to tell them apart is that the bolt pattern if slightly different. One of them has them offset form the centre but I can't rememebr which and my axle is at retromotorsport so I can't check i'm afraid!

if you get on to Fostek engineering... www.fostek.co.uk they'll be able to help you out if you need one!

Hope that's been of some help!!!

Some mk2's came with baby atlas's as standard

2.8 LSD's have a 3.09 CWP which is far to tall...

The correct one costs about 4 grand if that helps LOL

Steve, whilst this is reputedly true, have you ever ACTUALLY seen one? I can't recall ever seeing on.. just wondered if it's really true? Were they on Export cars perhaps, maybe Aus or South Africa?

I love Atlas,s, I had a Gartrac one (£3500+) in my old Mk2 and it wouldn't break no matter what. I've just got a semi floating Atlas for my new Mk2 and I only paid £1500 for it with a 5:1 ZF diff and it's bracedfand guarded!
They are mega and can take the power, if they don't fit Gartrac can narrow it for between £250 and £700 depending on wether it needs new shafts or not.

they were baby atlas ,but they ran the small crown wheel and pinions

as found in 1600 cc mk4/5 cortina's.

no good at all and not interchangeable with the capri type gears.
