i know YBs use oil, it says so in the manual
But, do they seem to use different amounts of oil if you put different grade/make oil in them??
i seem to remember Stu posting a brief line about oil quality/use
a while ago, but cant remember what he said lol.

i see!
any ideas what oils seem to 'last longest' ?
i use 15-50 mobil one, i have heard people say (only a couple though)
say they dont think much to that as they get thru a lot/
i dont know how much truth is in that though!

I think with oils a lot of its down to personal choice, ive been using millers motorsport 10/60.
Ive just ordered some silkolene Pro-R 15/50 (20 litres)!! and i came on here and found people were saying its no good and it makes the engine sound foooked!! GUTTED.
I was told it was told by a very reputable source that the mobil 15/50 and the silkolene 15/50 are the best oils to use, soill give it a change and see how it goes.

thanks mate
oilman reccomends silkolene and mobil 1
from a lubrication point of view, im sure these are the best.
but i was just wondering about the 'use/bunring(lol)' of oil
i guess the amount of oil the cars get thru takes second place to the actual
lubrication qualities.
just wondered tis all

It's down to engine condition, viscosity and oil volatility.
Engine condition - Leaks etc
Viscosity - Thicker oils are consumed at a lower rate generally
Volatility - The less volatile, better qualty oils will slow down consumption.
Fully synthetic oils (proper ones that is, not petroleum based) have lower evaporation rates at high temps because they are more thermally stable.
There is a standard test conducted which measures this for each oil. The oil is tested at 150degC and the %age of evaportaion is measured. Obviously the lower this figure the lower the consumption and the better the quality, the better the results are.
