Default Genuine Rs Engine Parts

hi all, bit of a newbie, my friend has just purchased a Mk2 Escort Rs with 45000 origanal miles on it in mint condition as you could probably apreciate he wants to show the car in concoures shows.... the car is compleetly satandared now question is....... is it best to replace the header tank, rocker cover and turbo cross over pipe with standard ford parts or get uprated ones... also any sugestions as to where to get these parts from??????

Cheers Guys
Ian

If it's totally original, then keep it standard. I don't particularly like some of the uprated chrome header tanks.

And there are no 'uprated' rocker covers, or charge carriers..only 'prettier' ones that have been painted, or chromed, etc.

Where to buy ? nomad, bailey, car shows are places for bargains, or just to see how various companies do these items. (For example, bailey weld the header tanks and leave then, whereas some companies smooth off the welds for a 'cleaner' finish). Depends what look you're after.

Me personally, if they look ok as they are, then leave them. If the need a clean up, you can still buy the header tanks from Ford (around £30-ish), maybe buy a good 2nd hand charge carrier, and ppowder-coat your original rocker cover whatever colour you want (silver or grey is always a winner). Make sure you clean the cover inside before it goes to get rid of any build up crap, and also after paint to wash out any grit left in from the clean-up prep the painters will do.

Just seen the pic. rocker cover & charge carrier look fine. Needs new header tank tho. I'd go for a Ford one as it looks very original in there & don't wanna spoil it with 1 bit of shinyness...unless you are planning on changing loads of other bits as well, which would be a shame as it looks a good original example.

Keep it real.

Best thing I find to use is Autoglym Engine and Machine Cleaner...

Start the engine, spray EMC everywhere you want to clean, aggitate it with a brush, then rinse off. Be careful not to drown all the electrics in water though. Then you can just wipe off the excess water. Then polish it if you want.

I love that gear, I clean everything with it, all under the kit and every little groove. I also clean my RC car the same way, start the engine, turn it on its side, and cover in ECM then rinse off with a hose

No, to clean them do what I said. If the paint is all shitty looking then I would suggest getting them powder coated silver.

I just got to aim for National Day really, everything else can wait. I got to pick it up, run it in, then get it mapped before I can do anything I need to do to it.

So much to do, so little time
