Head over to the RSOC site. There's a full thread on it. There's thought to be around 500 left, and we've identified around 200 or so.

Default S1 TURBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright geezer. saw your post on S1 turbo. Not sure how mant left on country but I would have thought maybe a bit less than 500. I have seen one since santa pod last year. Very rare! I myself have got a series 1 runnig about 220-230 bhp @ 20 psi. The car has been completely restored and engine just rebuilt. I'll try get some pics up soon. Just thought it might be of interest to you. Ben

I got one and mines in for restoration at the moment and it's only got 68k on the clock with full service history too

I suppose it's criminal turning it into a track weapon

Default s1

it is criminal tuning them up. but you got to admit though, they are rapid when fully rebuilt!! you wouldn't expect it to look at them unlike some of the s2's. Bodywork wise though I reckon whole car should be left totally standard. Ford got the look spot on when they designed it!!

I would disagree as there weren't that many made in the first place. The thread on the RS Owners site has been going on quite a while now and that only has just over 200 cars proven to be alive. The RS Owners club is a big worldwide club and would probably be the best place to find out the true number of genuine S1's left

There was approx 8500 S1's made in total inc those from abroad (think the actual figure was 8504). Even tho the thread has been going a long time, there must be loads of owners who do not go on the net, and are not that bothered about finding out neither, so the actual figure may be a lot more than we have: hence the 500 mark, with 200-ish definates so far..

Aargh. So close. I knew it was around there somewhere, but couldn't remember exactly. I think your UK figure is about right as well.

140 rs500s left . at the most i would of thought . so many must of been totalled racing and nicked its untrue
same as the S1 , would of thought most that have gone were either nicked and stripped or smashed to bits and actually rotting away and scrapped would be the least number . shame really what an a amazing looking car the S1 is . glad i got mine when i did b4 the prices go through the roof

hello m8 .
the S1 is a special car , back in the 80s when i started driving you could get mk2 rs2000s really good ones for Ł500 , i had a cracking 1968 mini cooper s i bought instead for Ł800 back then no-one really wanted the mk1 and mk2 escorts or the 60s minis ....................what are they worth now . mark my words m8 , hang on to your S1

I agree with Hatch mate, at 20yrs old you still get heads turning when driving the S1, the styling Ford got spot on!! And with numbers falling even S1's in a bad way are gonna be desirable for restorations, i recon prices will start rising... in the six years i've had mine i could get more for it now that what i paid for it. Don't want to sell it like but S1's are well worth hanging on too..

Will never sell mine, even although I've probably had more troughs than peaks. The S1 just looks as good now as it did when it was released, doesn't really seem to have aged at all IMO.

Wot do you mean by a fragile beast ? It's no more fragile than an S2, and your pockets have to be deep to keep a mint S2 as well Adam. Prices for parts are the same on both.

Why wouldn't you be able to do an S1 justice ? Try it..you might like it

I duno why but there seems to be a distinct diffrence between S1's & S2's IMO. Ford made a more watered down RS when they made the S2 because the S1 was too hardcore for the market, and S1's have the motorsport background over the S2.

Fragile is the wrong word for the S1, but big power on a knife edge.

i'd love one but they do seem a little harder to keep mint...bodywork especially
