Would it be alot better for me to go VAT registered? (i havent crossed the VAT threshold yet)

Probably not, more aggravation then it's worth IMO - best to avoid the VAT man where possible. Guess it depends on your personal circumstances though.

i part own a car parts company (dont trade on here anymore though).

Just wondering as i feel i may not always be getting taken seriously with me not being vat registered... hmmmmmmmmm..

I thought about going VAT registered but its just not worth it for me, will cross the thresshold when i come to it.

Worked for me even when I was below threshold. Although in my line of work it's a must if you want to seen as a sucsessful company even as a sole trader.

If you supply trade you have to be VAT registered really..if you dont...not a big concern IMO.

It depends on how much of your business is VAT claimable. It has its positive and negative points.

VAT returns are a bit time consuming and you need to know what you can and can't claim for, but then being an ex-Accountant I've done it a thousand times

And no, you don't have to be VAT registered but it does help, ie: setting up customer/supplier accounts and obtaining credit etc.
