Mazda RX7's..... Total capacity of 1308cc - how does this stand in the raod tax rates? Seeing as it it 2x little engines, rather than a conventional 1.3 engine?

I beleive RX7's are classed as 2600cc. And in the higher tax bracket.

No 100% sure though. best as an RX7 owner

Eil - I am constantly surprised how many people list em a 2.3 and 2.6 litre engines but they have a total capacity of 1308cc - they have 2x 654cc wankel engines bolted together - each with it's own turbo for about 280ponies

but as it's a rotary, you get twice the work of a 4 stroke for every revolution of the flywheel. Hence the 2600 thing.

Mate at work is taxed as a 1.3 I'm sure.......will double check tomorrow if need be. Cubic capacity is cubic capacity, and it's still a 1.3, lol.

2 little engines? WTF

Thats like saying a Cossie is 4little single piston engines

Or a GTR is 2 single turbo 3cyl engines

Whens the last time you seen a single rotor engine?

I would really love on of these - apart from the high group insurance, 17-20mpg fuel economy and the fact a good one is still over £5k

Stop being such a smartarse bill
Only single rotors were experermental engines like the 6a and silly lil bits of crap like that

Anyhow, still doesnt make a 13B 2 engines bolted together

You can make bigger rotorys by joining rotor housings together, but you still need a custom crank and whatever, and a 13B certainly wasnt made from 2 smaller engines or anything.

Well yea, it is 2 654cc rotors, but only in the same way a 2litre 4cyl is 4 500cc cylnders, if you get me, its not derived from 2 single rotor engines.

Just different types of engine. Each rotor housing can be seperated from each other, just like a head can be seperated from a block on a normal piston engine (well, apart from monoblocks).

Cant seperate the head on a Rotor cause it aint got one
