Told rich i would post this
The need for speed is to much for rich, so he is going to get a bike to feel the pure speed a bike gives.
Give me 4 wheels any day
Sorry Rich
What do you lot think about it???

how much experience has he got for a bike? also
what bike is he thinking of getting?
could always keep the car and get a bike for the odd occasions if he can afford to that is!

Bad time to sell any Cos at moment so better waiting for market to improve and leave buying a bike till end of season when they drop in price.

Get a SMALL bike and keep the cossie, get used to the bike (as you haven't got your licence yet).
Run the bike for 6 months, then decide whether to upgrade (and maybe keep the car), or, give up the bike

agree with eil132
i have standard frst and 180/190 erst and zx6r with 100 brake at the rear tyre
i think the figures were worked out on here that the power to weight gives a 100 bhp bike 600bhp per ton
but both give diff plesure.. im after the r1 next absolutly awsome
have the best of both worlds and have both

Theres nothing like a bike especially if you're a Speed demon
Adrenaline rush is amazing
But i'd defo prefer a car , 4 wheels are safer and you dont get soaked to the skin if it rains , you can't go out for the day with mates/family etc on a bike either

i had a bike while the first s2 was being built, the pro,s the sense of freedom is unrivaled you can get across town in 5 mins at anytime of the day and the sense of speed and risk is amp,d massively bigger adrenaline high, cons invisable hazzards deisel manhole covers white lines in the wet leaves, and worst of all cars
all my mates have always had r1,s gixers ect but i was always i car man the old chesnut "your not a good rider until youve fell off" is very true but not in the way you think as until this happens your confidence gets so high you,ll be on the back wheel more than 2 and goin that lil bit faster pushing that lil bit harder i managed a year and half without anything more than a flip thru back wheeled antics
i was super confident knew the bikes limits totally but! the amount of times i had heart stoppers due to idiots in cars pullin out was untrue you really have to ride witha every car at every jnc may pull out atitude, i found this out 1 day and still havent got back on or will not get back on a bike again if you have kids and a mortgage give it serious thought 1 lil offski could have you out of work and home the amount of smashd up bikers at my rehab centre is shockin i will be biased as its put pause on my life for the past 4 yrs and retired me from work just give it alot of thought mate, not to put you off just to show you the flipside ive lost 3 mates also to bikes, i recon its gotta be sumat fast if your goin from your cossie so just be careful mate you can be valetino rossi thiers just losts of invisible idiots out thier soz to rant

my 139bhp gixxer 750 with fluids and me on gives power/weight around 505bhp/tonne
thats a real life situation.dont let people quote you power/weight of a bike sitting by the kerb with no water, oil or petrol in
chop
Thankyou so much Dave. I forgot you said you were going to post this
Aside fromt he usual comments about me being too big for a bike, i do still like the idea of one. Saw a lovely Ducati poodlibg along today and it sounded awesome.
Yes it is only the thrill of having the speed associated with a bike that makes me what to get one and the costs of increasing power on the cossie is quite a bit as we all know.
Lets see some more peoples thoughts

the fours aint that good a bike for 1st timers IMO due to having to rag the nuts of them to get them to go n e where albit 130+mph
If it was me starting out would get a nice 600cc to start of ie: cbr6,gsx6,zxr6 etc!
ps best bet would be to wait a few months and buy one later in the year when more people are selling due to only riding in the summer weather
I only got 2500 miles on 2 wheels last year as couldn't be arsed to keep digging it out the lockup Guest

Enjoy mate
Yep, best bet, start on a 600
Awsome peformance without the power to high side ya over the roundabout.
You'd get bored of a 400 in 2 months.
Can't beat the rush of thrashing a sportsbike down a decent road, doesn't even compare to a car imo

Nimble bikes rule, and ALL bikes/cars are boring in a straight line after 2 months IME
PS
I have found that friends who have got straight onto big bikes NEVER learn to string a few corners together properly, as they tend to just point and squirt as they have the power to do so, where as if you ride something underpowered you are more keen to conserve momentum and hence give it more through the bends.

Wheelying down bus lanes is my forte
Seriously mate, 400 are ok, but no more nimble than a decent 600 there days.
400's are dated and heavy in comparison to the lastest breed of 600's and 59bhp is yawn worthy
The newest one is the RVF and thats over ten years old now!
400's are great if you are 4ft tall or a girl
Lee, last time you tried to ride a 400 you were probably 19 stone though mate!
But yes you are right on the power i guess, my last 400 was well into the 80s (89bhp IIRC) so thats probably putting rose tinted specs on me from the point of view of looking at 400s
600 though is definately a better idea than a 900 or 1000+ IMHO

have you seen HOW small the lastest r1 is
and then there's the new gsx1000 MOST if not all the big bikes of today are rapidily coming down in size(bulckeness etc) over the tonne in 1st
people who point and squirt will no doubt have more spills due to getting caught out(due to quickness etc) and NOT knowing their machine well enough, you have to watch enough dick heads drivers that are already on the road
