Default anyone involved in automotive Air Conditioning?

Does the receiver/dryer have a finite life? ie it can only absorb a certain amount of moisture? (filled with silica gell as far as i can establish..)
Can it be 'rejuvenated' by baking for example, to drive off accumulated moisture?
I'm thinking if the system has been empty of gas for a while, or the dryer has been off the car for a while, then it may have to be replaced?

Any help or info appreciated!

Cheers
Rich

alan - yeah it is replaceable, fits between o-ring union blocks off the side of the condenser - I'm questioning what determines if/when it needs replacing??

If you have broke into the system and it is a few years old or there has been no gas in the system for a while, replace it.....

You may have a leak in system or pipework?(all systems loose a few grams over a long period anyway)

the machine at work can re-charge you system, find any leaks, vac system(remove moisture from pipework) & also add pag grade oil to you system all in on cycle!!!

also a do a U.V test (dye added into system, special dectector glasses & sensor probe to locate where if any you leak/s are.

i would sugest you get system checked 1st before you purchase a new condiensor rad?

i could have this checked out for you when you are down my way?

got all silicone 'O' rings if you need any

all worth considering mate

James, already know where the leak is in the UV light, there's a big glowing green patch on the core behind the fan

if the system has been open for any period of time i.e no gas then the dryer should be replaced. i have done them and not , and some i have because the system would loose its effectiveness over a short term

rich replace it as a caution / it may not need replaceing but what happens is after a period of time if the dryer as absorbed alot of moisture they brake up and tend to block the system
