mk2 starter1

well u know there is a small wire with a lil push on plug that u push on to the starter!

cut that plug off & put it direct to the starter terminal & the wind a nut on to it to hold it! so your gettin a direct connection from wire to terminal as those lil plugs break down!

Buy a NEW Ford one. It's a new design and is smaller so moves away from the exhaust. Mine has been mint for the last 6k miles so far.

I am interested in this, infact I posted the other day. I would like to get a definate answer as to what Starter to use.

The Genuine Ford one is a fortune I think? Also, Ford tell me that there are several different Power ratings?

nothing wrong with gen ford starter motor, when it starts stcking due to heat expanding the copper lining in the solenoid take it apart and lightly sand down the the solenoid plunger that connects to the pre engauge and it will be fine.
thanks

The Ford one was Ł60 exchange to me but I get massive discount as the company I work for spends about 7k with the dealers every month.....

Add about 30% ish to that price....

The dealer I use is very good with supplying the correct parts and they knew it was for an RST. It was completely different to the old Bosch one I took off but fitted straight on. It spins over fast without struggling.

My Ford Dealer told me that there are 4 possible starters for the RST, all with different Power Outputs.

I NEEEEEEEED to know the answer. Saying its a Diesel Starter isnt enough!

How the hell did they get it to fit I thought there where totally different! unless they are running a MTX75 cable linkage gearbox I have a Focus starter and its well different *edit* thinking about didn't the 1.4's and 1.6's have the IB5 box which may /maynot fit

Christian and Beccy which version did you go for? I ordered a 1.4kw version from Ford today, hope it sorts my starting problems

On inspection, it's not the Focus one. It's actually the new style Ford one, as Daz says, and it's shitloads better. If u dont want to pay, get a small fiesta one like Lewis says - they work well.

I went for a Bosch one. It is also 1.4kw and smaller in size than the original. It cost around Ł90 exchange.

Its top notch!

C&B what battery spec do you use? I think I may have wasted my dosh on a Red Top, not convinced it has the cranking power I need.

The 1800 diesel one goes on bit chunky but works a treat. Used to have the same prob on my RST after that it never failed me again. it sounds like a cossy on start up as well!!!

Paul, I use an Optima Yellow Top battery. It is top notch. OK, so it should be for what it cost!

I assume you mean that you use a DMS Red Top battery? They are shite IMO for Road use. Anything close to power drain and you might aswell put it in the bin, especially if it goes totally flat. Sorry!
