They have exceptionally long first gears for track use mainly and wont lock the rear wheel when downshifting as they all have slipper clutches now

I think it revs to about 16000!! On the way back from picking it up it was limited to 8500, but he still managed to play with a TVR and come out on top

Talk about internet perpetuated exageration
.
The R1 is rev limited a fraction above it's 13,750 rpm redline (peak power 12,500rpm)
.
However, you are right about the speed in first gear, so earn yourself a brownie point
.

You know that saying "You learn something new each day". It's only 9:40, I might as well go back to bed.

Back in the very early 90's the Kawasaki ZZR1100 would do a 0 to 60 in 2.6 secs, god knows how fast the R1 and Hayabusa can do it in !

They are 1000cc m8, the early ones were 1100cc
The 0-60 is still around the high 2s low 3s on these bikes

I think you can compare it with Formule 1 car, first gear is pretty long and then it doesn't drop below the 9-10.000 rpm, so the top would be @ the 200 mph I guess.
