just sold my rs so now desperate to get out on track will a 1.6 be quick enuff to have a laugh in? is really to keep insurance down!

could i still put an mi16 in at a later date?can a 1.9 rear beam etc be fitted

 

fantastic little car fella,feels quite quick as gears are very short and is a revvy little bugger,mi16 can be done no probs as can 1.9 rear beam,for proper acceleration get a mi16 on a 1.6 box,0-60 in about 6 seconds!

I had an Mi16 and virtually gave it away cos no fooker wanted it!
If only I had the space I'd have kept it, but the cossie was coming and i needed the room!

1.6 Gti - the absolute nuts mate! Not much slower than the 1.9 either.
Decent ones getting rare now.

have had 1.6 was the nuts on the road but just wondered about power on track

 

my mates got a 205 with the mi 16 in it easy to do and loads of fun 185 bhp he got on the rollers

 

Enough to keep you busy in the twistys as they handle really well. I had my rear beam solidly mounted on aluminium blocks and ran it on Bilsteins all round.

Suppose you have to pick and choose your places (venues) carefully as some of the big fast venues would see you feeling underpowered if your used to turbo'd power.

 

1.9 would be a better bet as otherwise you have to monkey around to get the bigger brakes onto the front of the 1.6 (not a straight swap of calipers and disks) and fit the rears etc.

Either way though, cracking little cars, ideal for a trackday.

 

Sam and Dave - Thats pretty good considering a stock Mi16 is 160 bhp - and a stock 205 1.6 is 115!

dave - cheers, just havin discussion on 205 quering my figures against them rollers at the show , always get some 1, , but putting graphs up so c what they pick on then .

mr phil4x4 - ive fitted the vw TB & tubular manifold, also cone filter . & yes its fun fun fun, still doin bout 35 mpg as well.

chips3door - most 1.6's poss run the 1.9 wheels anyway, so just fit the disks/calipers(although not sure if caliper locations r different i no hubs r as 1.6DS has 32 splines & 1.9 has 36 splines) but if goin on track best put decent set of 4 pots on,(just my 2p's worth)

glad 2 say ive never looked back since owning mine.

Could also use the 306 GTi6 front brake setup as an upgrade as well.
