Default Who can do HPI checks? i need help and advice

went to have a look at a car the other day, everything was ok apart from the chassis number on the car didnt match the log book, both chassis numbers were for the same model car but they were from different year cars.

how would i find out if the car is totally dodgy and leave well alone?

or could it be a simple case of not informing the dvla atfer a perfectly legitimate re-shell?

ive kept a note of both chassis numbers and also the reg of the car etc, would the dvla be able to tell me much if i rang them?

Even if that was the case, you could suddenly end up with a Q reg......

Same question as Damo, but I'd be walking away myself........

Damo V, owner said he knew nothing about it, he hadnt owned the car long and bought it off a mate seems strange how nobody else had noticed this either as the car has had 12 former keepers.

was an RS1600i Jan 1983 model on the log book, but the cars chassis number was saying it was a November 1982 RS1600i. it had 8yrs worth of MOT's all showing the chassis number on the car and not the one on the log book, seemed strange as to where the other 14 years worth of MOT's had gone

Really gutted cos the car was well tidy and perfect for my zetec turbo engine if it didnt have this problem, also very pissed off at the fact it was 350 miles away from my house!!! :

Billabong, a Q plater would be horrible, always think cars look dead ropey when theyre on a Q, regardless of their condition
