Default its not idleing right..!?

weird one

Car starts fine.. no probs all the way to the limiter.. but on idle, it hunts.. revs drop and go up Sounds like its missing slightly, but only at idle revs...

Changes leads and plugs but still the same

I think the rocker gasket leaked as was oil around that area... But now Ive tightned them, it no longer leaks.. Could this have an effect??

thanks

Sounds like an air leak.

Have you also tried taking out the idle screw and giving it a clean ?

Chesty, it's under the throttle body - right hand side (or thereabouts, it's a few years since I've had an ERST) large-ish knurled screw with a spring (don't let this drop when you unscrew it!)

Best to clean it with petrol or similar as it will be coked up. Then when you screw it back in all the way, unscrew approx 2 full turns (remember we're taling YEARS ago since I had one!) but obviously check the idle speed / stability.

It adjusts the air mix at idle IIRC, not the actual idle speed screw.

EDIT: would have beaten Rick if I didn't type so much

I apologise, but i am thick and still dont know where you meen it is here is a pic.. not mine but same engine

Take off your air filter and spray carb cleaner into the metering head in short bursts bet that fixes it.

Chesty, it took me longer to do that pic than it would to find that screw

It's UNDER the main throttle housing block, not the inlet plenum.

Could be a sticky flap too I guess

@ Rudester.

It DOESN'T adjust the mixture at all - it's just an air bypass - like opening the throttle a bit more. The CO screw is in the metering head.

I've just re-read my post - my wording was very poor . I did indeed mean that it wouldn't adjust CO, just sort out an even idle, but used totally the wrong words -

Maybe your hasn't got one which is why it idles poorly, lol. I'd have a look at the next Bed's meet, but I haven't been since it moved farther south .

Chesty - possibly, I mean if you take the cap off, the engine should stall, so a leaky rocker cover could be an issue....... thought you'd sorted that?

LOL @ Katie, hope you now feel inferior Wes'side

As someone already said, it's more of a large screw with a knurled edge (thinger and thumb size, not a screwdriver jobbie)
