anyone ever snapped a driveshaft ?
i thought i did my box in last sat lost nearly all drive so i went about removing the box to find the shaft had snapped where the teeth enter the diff fook knows how but it snapped so i thought should i remove the box or not (it was noisey)so i removed it for re build stripped it to find nothing wrong so gonna put new bearings and seals in whilst its out .

Just thought id ask if anyones done or heard of the same with the shaft it is weird it drove like the clutch was slipping but its fine , then i presume the shaft was grabbing because it gripped a couple of times ?

i busted a cv on way back from fitp and got all the way home (2hrs) on 1 shaft

went to replace it and the diff was locked so i have to change the box or not go round corners


now i have to change the box again cos the linkage inside it is stiffened up and hard to change


got a diesel box with lsd fitted ready to go in tho

 

was it an lsd box if so was it driving like the clutch was slipping

 

the 1 that locked?


it was fine n dandy, i dint think it was lsd as it dint really feel that positive thru the bends but when i took it our it was a propper lsd box, never felt like the clutch was gone tho, i just came out a mc'd's a bit lairy and hit a pot hole, thought the cv was hanging on for the journey but it was actually mullered and the drivers side shaft got us home (pulling left like a mofo tho on acceleration)

the box i just put in was a reconned xr2 box (had it to hand so bunged it in )
that was slipping bad but the boost is down to 10 and sometimes maybe 15 now

but thats 20 psi thru a std cutch for ya

 

I've snapped a drive shaft in half before on my series 1.
Wasn't really giving it any round town, then this clunking noise appeared (bent/kinked driveshaft) didn't know at the time what it was, cause i couldn't see anything. Driving it home it finally snapped, still don't know why it did

 

mine snapped just where it enters the diff

 

Ive seen pics of lewis' old driveshaft from his old black s2, properly bent in half man!

 

i did have 2 spare drive shafts as aswell but i aint anymore

 

I haven't seen it happen too often. I have heard of it but rarely seen it.

It sounds like you have snapped the CV joint though so you should be able to replace that.

 

also i was on 1.3 shafts

still am on the short 1 , got a rst 1 in the boot incase it goes tho
