on a saph cossie shell (2wd ) considering fitting coilovers, but i have heard that the rear strut tops need strenghening, is this true or does it depend on poundage of the spring

What does the manufacturer of the component recommend ?

 

It depends on why your doing this , if your coilovers are rubber bushed road car ones then it wont make a bit of difference to your strut tops . If your using proper coilover units for racing then of course your strut tops will be triangulated to the cage to stop flex and deflection in the shell .
