Default Help , Opinions wanted please, Hard decision (DECIDED NOW)

I am going to restore my S1 but i am going to Belize for 6 months in July.
I have my hands on quite a few of the bits and with a bit of effort I could gather the rest of the bits before I go.

Should I leave the car in the garage while it will rust a bit over the 6 months while I am away or do I gather the parts and give it to a restoration place while I am away and let them get on with it so it's done when I get back as it may take a while when I come back from Belize.

I will get impatient when I come back if it takes along time.

What to do. Suggestions please

I would personally sorn it and lock it away in your garage till you return,at least you will know it is safe, anyway you will want to pop over to look at it while its being done, the company doing it will prob want to contact you while its being done aswell.imo thats what i would do

Thing is that when I return i will have a couple of weeks off and then I am going to Germany for a posting so I will only come home when I have leave.

Another major factor Dave is that the garage it is in is 2 miles from home so it may be better off at a resto place.

In that case as you are off to Germany, straight after i would get it done ,will the car take six months to do though, just thought if it were ready sooner, have you any way of getting it back home (safely) .

The place that I have visited with the intention of using is less than 5 miles away from home and my garage. I intend to have the engine left out once it has been restored as the bottom end still has satndard internals including the pistons

The company said that they could take the car back to my garage or my friends said they would collect it and drop it back to my garage if necessary.

A friend of mine owns a resto company down in Surrey, bit of a trip but they have restored a few of these and a lot of mercs, they can do any level of resto work and if you have access to e-mail I could pop down and take pictures and keep you updated while you are away

They love these cars and have been ford nuts for 30 odd years and there work is second to none

Just a thought

cheers

Rich

I have decided to put it in for restoration before I go to Belize and then there's no rush to get it done

Gary ( Gadget ) has said he will help me strip it ( or should I say that I'll hinder him stripping it ) ready to go to the restorers

Bits I got so far ( all genuine + brand new)

Fuel Tank
Front Panel
2 x Front Wings
Rear Panel + Plastic Plugs
Pair of Front Headlights
Crossmember (on way)
Front Bumper Complete
Rear Bumper Complete

Will be looking for floor pans, battery tray , inner wings, boot , bonnet, sills and chassis legs. Plus i doubt there will be a load of other bits

I intend to keep it for the long run , even more so as there are fook all left around according to the thread on the RSOC Board that has a collection of number plates confirming S1's left around. If I recall it's barely around 200
