How my friend described the use of the :cry: smiley...
If you use pf a lot, you get used to the fact that people use
to represent laughter cus lets face it;
just dont hack it.
But eventually the
usage becomes an institue all of its own, with people often using
on other sites as well as pf and on MSN. For example I use
on the FordSport forum.
This leads for most people unused to the "PF" use of
to become confused.
So while I was talking to a friend of mine on msn (Capri is his username, and he posts on here every now and again.) I was using the MSN
to represent my reaction to some of the more humourous parts of our conversation where he replied to me, and I flocking quote too

i'm presuming, based on passionford trends, that the
for you is 'crying with laughter' rather than 'crying with despair, general sadness and emotional savagery' or somesuch?

mmm, if you let your mouse hover over the smily, a yellow tool tip comes up that reads "surpris"...
No bonus for guessing what that means in english, but it's neither crying with laughter, or crying with despair... go figure...
