Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone would know why my Turbo would be glowing red hot after a run along the Motorway. It was that bad it had melted the return pipe for the oil. I have checked the timing and its bang on 12 degrees (with vacume hose off) BTDC but when I increase the engine speed the timing mark doesn't appear to move very far with the vacume hose connected. The Map sensor as far as I know is working fine due to me having the chip put into a good ECU. I have been told about chips that rally cars use etc that run next to no advance so the engine can go flat out without pinking. Any ideas?
Don't know much about chhipped ECU's and how they work compared to standard one.
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Dave

low coolant level ? low oil level perhaps ?
something must have caused the turbo to get hot and increase in temperature...
if you weren't thrashing it then something must be not right...

two things which can cause that.... air leak somewhere so your turbo over speeding check the inlet on your intercooler see if its hot after a run then check the hose coming off the compressor also timing?
My money is on a poor fuelling set-up.
Start with the Throttle Position Sensor (with this faulty, the Fuel Enrichment wouldn't be triggered and you would be running MEGA lean.
However, an Air leak could be another one to look at, although you would probably notice a lack of performance if you had a large hole somewhere.

Thanks for all the replies. I have had all the pipes off and can't see anything wrong. How can I check to see if the TPS is working or not?
I'll check the temp of the hose when I get home from work to see if its daft or not.
I have a radtec front mounted intercooler on at the minute with a standard radiator but the car temps seems to be normal. About halfway in traffic and about 1/4 when driving normally.
Need to get this sorted now as I don't want my car to go up in flames.
Due to me having a collins chip on the car how will this affect my ignition timing. As it doesn't seem to advance as much as a standard one does. I have heard that If the car is running with the ignition retarded too much this can cause the car to run hot is this true?
Cheers
