speedo fault

Default speedo fault

please could someone help, i have a 1990 RS Turbo and every so offen i lose the speedo and fuel computer plus the mileage will not clock up when this happens, its not the speedo drive in the gearbox because when i change the clutch i had the gearbox checked out, the cable looks ok and the pick for the fuel computer. so is it the tacho at fault. please help

speedo itself is purely mechanical, so tach has nothin to do with it. Id take the cable out the back, and see if u have drive. Ur losing it somewhere.

i know when iam goin to lost it because the needle will start to dance about, the cable is firmly fixed in the back of the clock. i thought it was the gearbow end because i lose the fuel computer at the same time which is sensed at the gearbox end of the cable

Had this on mine mate. It did turn out to be the cable. Mine was a two part cable and it was swapped for a 1 piece and has been fine ever since.

If you can jack the car up and run it in gear with the clocks out you will see the inside of the cable turn. I would put cash on it that if you pull the piece that is turning out slightly it will stop until you oush it back again. This did my fookin head in for a good few weeks until Pat at SCC Performance suggested I try this.

they are 2 piece on abs - dunno why. Ford only part and are a fortune. One piece on from motor factors was only a couple of quid.
