how can you tell if a gt40 is real?
Sorry mate.
Nah really, the GT40 kit is one of those really accurate ones that have been around for years. As the car was made (officially) in such small numbers the kit's sprung up...
Aren't there any GT40 sites (similar to say the RSOC) who could list out the exact details?
Ferrari Dino kits are like these - buggers to tell apart.....

Go up and tap it, if it is fibre glass it is a fake, if it is metal, it is almost 100% likely to be real. However, there are some REALLY good replicas out there that are identical to the real thing barring the fibre-glass body, so is very difficult to tell if it isn't on an age related plate (that shows it being newer than late 60s)
.
Also the price tag will give it away (if it's for sale), as the genuine ones go for Ł750k

The real ones have the chassis number stamped onto a plate at the top of the "b" pillar on the off side. Most copy's don't have this - or if they do the plate is fake and easy to spot.
There were 2 that looked exactly like that pic at the national kit car show last weekend
Not really sure but I think one had a Fiat twin cam engine in
