Default Any tips for storing a car for 6 months?

As above , I am going away for 6 months and the car will be staying in a lockup with no electric so there won't be any kind of devices to take moisture out of the air etc.

Should I put it on axle stands to take the weight off the wheel bearings?

The car will be restored to it's former glory when I return in January but I don't want it to rust to hell before I come back

Am more concerned about the mechanical bits and pieces such as the turbo, brakes etc.

Any advice is appreciated

i would put it on axle stands but not too high just to take the weight off of the tyres, or you could end up with the suspension at full stretch ..

I put mine on axle stands and take the wheels off and put them in bin bags. I also connect the battery up to a battery conditioner. I leave the petrol tank full and I start it up once a month or so and leave it ticking over in first gear to get the oil round things, until it warms up.

No electric Radders as it is about 2 mile from my house. Very trusting I know but it's been there for 3 years and is very well looked upon by the very good neighbours

old steel wheels, keep tank full and go in a trainers shop and get some silica gel and bet lots of it in the car to keep the the damp away

when ya get back disconnect the coil and turn the car over for 3 mins so the oils all pumped round

oh and do not leave ya have brake on as that will seize the calipers

theres prob more but that should do for now

Think the main problems are, flat spots on the tyres, moisture in particular and a flat battery.
Solutions: axel stands to take pressure off the tyres, All weather breathable cover? for the moisture problem, take battery out and hook it up to a trickle charger at home.
Hope this helps.

I had my S1 standing for about 2 months, kept it on charge, wheeled it back and forth everyweek and the garage is dry so it was fine and started first time with a roar

3mins ginge fook if the oil aint got around the engine after 30secs of cranking theres sommit wrong

Think most points been coverd. But i wouldnt start it every month and you can build up condensation in the Exhaust so it rusts through and also it can happen in the motor.

As for keep tank full suppose its good idea but always got mine empty

Why leave the tank full? What difference does that make. Your fuel will go 'off' after 6 months so it'll be a waste of Ł35 quid and make the car run rough.

wish my tank was 35 quid

its to stop the tank rusting on the inside as fuel can evaporate and also tanks do rust on the inside

in saying that i use my cossie about once a month and leave my tank empty

Just lend it me - I'll look after it.

Weve got Croft, National Day and quite a few sprints and hill climbs coming up

Take the plugs out and spray some wd40 in there put the plugs back in
Also change the oil for some cheapo crap that you can dump when you get back
I also use a carcoon at my lock up and there is no electric
I use car batterys
Cannot one of your mates go and change the battery for you
One battery last about a week
I have 4 on charge all the time

Thank you all for the good suggestions. This is definitely the best so far and I will have to look into it. How does it run on 12 olts if it is supposed to be run on 240 ? Looking for all the advice I can get as I leave in July

Uses the 12v to power an inverter Dave but it depends on the wattage of the motor.
