Default Cosworth Reliability

Depending on the insurance prices i think i,m going to get a saph
Now the $64000 question is what stage of tune will it stop being a reliable daily(ish)driver
Will hopefully have about 6k to spend
And if the insurance ain,t too bad with Our girt on it aswell it might have to be a 4x4
This will more than likely be the main car for us

Andy

best everyday rd set up is a 330bhp you should have no probs what so ever

but what ever you do make sure you either wire ring the block and fit a grp a gasket (yb0611 )or have a cometics metal one fitted .. useing the cometics you will have to make sure that the surface of your head and block are dead flat or they wont work properly

you got 2 choices .

when my cossie was 330bhp(with t34) and wire ringed i did about 38,000 miles without any probs at all , and thats was with a few track days,1/4 mile events and genral trashing around the streets ....the block on this engine was wirering with a grp a gasket

i wanted more power so the engine was taken out to be refreshed and the for a 400bhp spec

i am running circa 400bhp@30psi, i use the car everyday, it has done about 8k miles on this engine, it starts every morning, i ring its kneck everytime i drive it, its got a 205 block that apparently should of thrown itself around the engine bay, the diff is still holding out (but i don't launch it that hard) the gearbox is also holding out albeit a little whiney now (not surprising seeing as they have done 90k)!

Just get one with an engine that has been put togethor not thrown togethor and they are good strong engines, its like any car you drive, you get brutal with it, it will break, you keep on top of it and they last really well

only down side is it drinks fuel like a bastard, however speak to stu@msd as his closed loop thing has resolved this issue

Andy

this is what I am planning..

Like Ima says though engine rebuild or low miles mate. Anything inbetween is a risk

I've looked at 6 cars so far and can happily say none of the 6 were right for me.
4 of them being FUCKED!!!!!

Jake i was contemplating another rst or frst but think i,ll get bored to quick
Think 4x4 is the best option cause Donna will be driving it more than me
Just need to get some quotes on insurance as i had a theft claim last year
still got 8yr ncb though so might be ok?

i met a guy with a stage 1 4x4, it had covered 160 thousand miles on the original engine, only having 2 headgaskets & a set of lifters & it still sounded sweet!
if you want one as an every day car, then try to get a facelift with aircon, its such a joy in the summer. i was thinkink of selling mine, but trying to find an escos of the same caliber for sensible money was a joke, so i've just done a major service on mine & will keep it for a bit longer.
