It will be the test mode as fitted to most modern cars, my 1996 mondeo ghia x has it on the fuel computer so yes it will probably work, all the info will come from a central control box and the designers have used the digital display to display the test functions.
have you tried the net for the code to put in, that way it will be free!!
something like passionford but for whatever car you have!!

if it's anything like the bmw obc, then all you need to workout is how to enter the code and then entre the date, something like that anyway.

it's probably true, the focus has the same test display in the digital odometer.......

just ask about on the vag forums......

its something we hav ebeen using for along time , im a little enibriated but ill try an describe it , bascally the climatronic system as used bt us is simply can controlled so given the correct address can display the majority of vehicle functions/trouble codes - tis a piece of piss

Loads of cars have diagnostic modes!! I was playing with a mates Corsa display years ago and it kept flashing up some random stuff that looked like the speed!
