Default Sheared 3 inch Mongoose down pipe (S2)...

Hello all.

My 3 inch Mongoose system on my S2 is 5 years and approximately three and a half thousand miles old and recently sheared off completely (in the metalwork, not at a join) just below the turbo as I accelerated hard in second gear.

There's about 3/4 of an inch of metal left bolted to the turbo and the rest is just sitting on the rubbers. It broke almost cleanly in a near perfect circumference of the pipe, and with no warning.

I have no paperwork to confirm the age of the system or date of sale.

Does anyone know where I stand as far as any kind of warranty or manufacturers good will is concerned, if any?

And is this a common problem?

Have any of you folks suffered similar breakages?

I can't seem to find an address for Mongoose. It would appear that Collins are the sole distributors, is this correct?

Finally, if I haven't a leg to stand on and anyone's got a mint down pipe same as above for sale, i'd appreciate a shout

Thanks in advance for your input

Collins = Mongoose. If you ask nicely I'm sure they'll supply just a downpipe for trade price, so it wont be too expensive.

Does your mongoose system have a flexi join just after the downpipe? I dont think they usually do, I run a magnex system and a mongoose backbox. The magnes system has a flexi join to help with movement at the downpipe end (I guess to prevent things lkike this happening) I know you can get something similar for mongoose as someone was selling one on here a while back.

mine split 2 due to it rattling of its rubber mounts and banging on the underneath of the car and that caused it to crack all the way round...

no doubt mongoose sounds the best and performance wise is best, scorpians are very restrictive its just the tail pipe that looks nice, but the best fitting and best quality has got to be the magnex

Cheers, that's sort of what I had in mind. I'll drop them a line.

No, it doesn't. It's a solid pipe from the turbo all the way to the back wheels I'm sure it's a very good way of getting excellent flow, but it's bloody inconvenient and expensive to replace.

I think a short renewable down pipe section or as you say an expansion joint of some kind would be a good idea.

Cheers.

Apparently Mongoose are the best. I was told a long time ago that a chap or chaps who fell out with management at Scorpion decided to leave and set up on his / their own.

Mongooses eat Scorpions, so he / they decided to produce a better system than Scorpion and name his / their company Mongoose after the animal and it's dietry habits.

Great story, hope it's correct

scorpian is also restrictive due to the width of the pipe drematically decreasing as it goes into the backbox aswell as the sharp bends it has
