Renting a car in pakistan for a road trip, driver or self-drive?
Hi everyone. I’m planning a two-week trip across Pakistan for work and sightseeing, mostly between Lahore, Islamabad, and a few smaller towns. I’m thinking about using a rent car service instead of relying on buses. Has anyone rented a car there recently? I’m mainly wondering about road conditions, fuel costs, and whether it’s better to hire a driver or drive myself as a foreign visitor.
I rented a car in Islamabad last year and overall it was a good experience. Main highways were actually better than I expected, especially between larger cities. In busy areas traffic can get stressful, so if you’re not used to local driving styles, hiring a driver might save you time and nerves. Fuel prices were manageable for a medium sedan.
I traveled through for almost a month and used both self-drive and chauffeur services. Personally, I’d recommend getting a driver if you plan to visit smaller towns or mountain regions. Navigation apps worked fine in cities, but outside urban areas road signs were inconsistent and traffic rules felt more flexible than in Europe. Drivers also helped with parking, toll roads, and communication at checkpoints. Costs were reasonable compared to renting in many other countries, especially if you split expenses with friends. Just make sure to inspect the car carefully before taking it and ask about insurance coverage in advance. Recommend getting a rent car Pakistan service here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/pakistan
