Default Fans turning on, then not turning off!

Fans on the old RS Turbo are switching on before car boils over as they should be but they then never switch off. I may have an airlock or blockage which I need to investigate but how hot should the housing where the fan switch is get? I've noticed with fans on the fanswitch is too hot to touch maybe issue with thermostat?

The first thing I'd try is to put in a new fan switch.

Yea I think the car has a lower temp switch fitted will try a standard one, also the car has the fans on separate loom on constant live unlike original setup which was on ignition.
done 300 miles over weekend and on move fans cut off and rarley come on unless in traffic which is great. We can park the car up and fans can then come on after we have walked away and they stay on for 15mins approximately then.been checking battery after and seems ok .

Changed fan switch and does the same,it's has if once idling stationery the coolant is not being pushed around the system enough. Water pump is new and car is 1.8zvh. Is the standard cvh water pump upto the job?
are there any mods done to the cooling when being converted to zvh that may cause a restriction in the system?

My sons ST170 engine did something similar again with a newish water pump. Turned out to be the impeller on the pump wasn’t tight on the shaft.
