Hello all,
I'm the chap with the XR2i-based kit car.
I want to improve the brakes so I got hold of
the master and servo can from a Mk.5 XR3i. Everything has been cleaned up
but I've run into a problem while rebuilding the master. I got a seal kit from Bigg Red
and got the innards out of the cylinder.
I've rebuilt the secondary piston (see pic) but the problem is with the primary piston. Secondary piston rebuilt
Here the primary...
Primary piston & seals
Where the seal fits on the centre of the piston, next to the spring, there are two metal parts. To the right of the seal, next to the flange, there's
a very thin metal washer. Next to this, actually inside the seal, there's a complicated, thin spring steel part. This has tabs that lock into a groove in the piston.
Four more tabs, each with a 90 degree bend, sit inside the seal, essentially suppurting and shaping it.
One problem is that the smaller seals are a very tight fit indeed and the other problem is that on my setup, the spring steel thngy is snapped.
has anybody crossed swrds with this before and does anyone know where I might get hold of reaplacement spring steel jobby?
