Whilst driving my instrument panel suddenly dies and the speedo drops to zero and then it suddenly comes back to life only to do the same thing again, also the car seems to lose very slight power when it does it?

I have read that sometimes it can be just the instrument panel that's faulty, if so can you just swop it for another or does it have to be coded?

 

From memory they are not coded on a mk1 focus but are on mk2 as the immo pass through is in the cluster on a mk2

If you fit a used cluster you are stuck with the mileage.

If it's just the speedo dropping off the VSS in the gearbox is the culprit - good luck changing that

 

Okay thanks. It’s not just the speedo, the whole instrument panel goes dead. I don’t understand why the car loses slight power though when it does it?

 

No idea why that is, the clusters on mk1 were problematic back in the day , Ford sold them cheap as they were aware of an issue!

They sold replacement clusters for Ł99 on a goodwill basis, the campaign has finished years ago though.

Just get a like for like part number cluster from a breakers.
