I’m hopeful someone can help me with a radio issue on my Mk5 Escort.
It has a 2007 rds radio with a 2040 cd player.
Sometimes the radio will turn on, when it does it asks for a code, I’ll start putting in the code and before I get chance to finish the radio turns off.
So I know there is power to it. I’ve checked the fuses on the radio and under the steering wheel. I’ve disconnected the battery, put it on charge. Waited 30 mins, Still nothing.
It’s an odd one, the majority of the time the radio won’t turn on, but every now and again it does, but only for a few seconds before turning off.
Any help would be appreciated, scratching my head with this one!
I’ve got an earlier 2007 radio in a Sierra that’s started giving issues. Sometimes it comes on when the engine is running, not with the ignition. Disconnect it when the engine or ignition is on and the radio turns on. Enter the code and it’s fine. Turn it off on the key and back on again and it’s not working again.
got ignition and permanent live and good earths and it’s doing nothing apart from lighting up when the headlights come on.

I think the unit may be at fault
Hi,
the issue has now been fixed. Leaking capacitors on the circuit board. Now repaired. Apparently it’s a common problem with these radios.
