I am changing the alternator on my car but the new one has different connections. The original has a 3-pin connector ( marked B+ and D+ ) but the new one is different. I assume the B+ (red) wires can both go to the B+ terminal on the new alternator, I am not sure where the blue wire should connect to. The only other marked terminal is W ( warning lamp I guess ), but what is the other terminal in the black plastic area? Could that be D?
Thanks for any help.
Old alternator New alternator (Ridex) Wiring 3-pin connector
Reds to B+
Blue wire to D+ (the other connector in the black plastic - this is the exciter/dash circuit)
W is a pulse signal for Tacho's, and used by diesels generally - you don't need/use this

Excellent, that is perfect. Thank you very much sir.
OK so the alternator wires are good now, I have spent some time cleaning the engine while I had it in the garage. I did however forget to take a photo of the alternator bracket/bolts and how it fits the pulley that tensions the AC belt. Does anyone have a clear photo of that area so I can see?
