Default Arch rolling - anybody used this tool?

Evening all,

The 18" wheels catch slightly on the front of the sapphire now so looking to do this job at home.

Anyone used this for the job?

Cheers

I’ve used one on a 3dr and the front arches went ok as there quite soft but it will move the arch and highly likely to crack the paint and the rears it didn’t touch as there double skinned and very hard.
I’ve just had a repaint done on my 500 and got the painter to do it the old Skool way 😎

Hummm...looks like the use of heat eases the paint and avoids the paint cracking.

Whats the chances the pros use this type of tooloing?

Only ever taken a grinder to others needing the lips off

Heat may help. I didn’t use heat as the car was being painted anyway. Regards the pros using the arch roller I expect they do but I can’t see it working on the rears from experience as you have the inner and the outer arch spot welded together and makes them really hard to roll.

The rears are fine, dropped it 25mm yesterday and its got loads of room.

Just the fronts and to be honest its only the top, say 8", 4" either side of the top middle.

I done the front on my sapphire after I went over a pothole while turning, it caught the edge of the tyre and pulled the arch down, I heated it up quite a bit then used it to massage it back a little, not to much as it still has the plastic inner arches.

The rolled arches blend in and are not really noticeable.
Hi Mark I have the same arch rolling tool to do the arches on my Son,s Subaru Impreza track day car but I have'nt used it yet so not sure how it will work. My front and rear arches were rolled a long time ago as mine is 35mm lower than standard and was essential to avoid any contact between the tyres and arches. They were done the old school way as I don't think there were any tools around to do it yourself. You like things to be done right on your car and I would rather get a bodyshop to do it as you don't want any damage to the paintwork.

Hi Mark I can see your point on who will do the job properly. There are some good videos on you-tube showing how to use the arch roller and I will be using the tool soon on the Subaru.Take your time with it and I am sure you will get it done. It is only the front arches that need doing so you dont have to worry about the double skinned rear ones.

Evening all, got into the garage today to have alook at the front arches.

So a very good friend offered me his arch roller which came from a wheel and tyre garage.

So jacked up and axel stands in place I bolted it on.

I've put a small piece of foam on the caliper just incase I get carried away with rollering in.

So lets go, whats the worst that can happen !

Here it is then, original untouched arch. Plenty of heat added all over the area and then I left the gun on to blow up into the arch.

So off I went, slowly at first getting the hang of the arm and gradually winding it out.

Kept stopping to reaply heat as I was worried about the paint cracking.

Not sure if the picture shows up but it went really well. Need to refix the arch fastenings but I'm really happy with it.

next up the n/s arch.

Hi Mark, looks like you have figured it out with the arch rolling tool. Should give you confidence that you won't get any problems with the tyres hitting the arch. Well done! Richard.

Hi Mark is that the set of wheels you recently bought? Are you going 18" wheels again or back to 17"? Richard.

Hi Richard, sticking with 18's now the arches are done.

Been offered a set of 6 but I dont have the room for another set plus 2 spares.

That would be about 6 sets and the odd random wheels....the car will end up outside!!
