One last thing on my sierra to fix while waiting for my new startup map is the reverse light connector.....
Now I know this is going to sound stupid but I can t for the life of me find this bloody connector.
I bought the car with engine out. Now after rebuild, resolving problems everything is near perfect apart from this reverse light.
So I have the reverse switch on the gearbox. Plugged the loom into it ran it back to the actual engine bay and I don t know where it pluggs in. I ve looked everywhere so I think it must have been hidden somwhere out of the way when the engine was removed. The car is a 92 cosworth 4x4 and the plug at the end of my gearbox loom is small, rectangular (oblong) and has 2 pins.
Brilliant ! I ll go check tomorrow.
my car is left hand drive (living in France ) so my battery is on the left in that photo.... do you think it will be on the other side ? The length of the loom I have coming from the gear box switch would suggest it is where it is on that photo.
I ll tell you if I find it tommorw ! Many thanks !
No luck ! I still can t find the conector. It s not where it is in that photo.
the only 2 pin conector I have that s not plugged into anything is on the chassis rail under the turbo but I had assumed it was for the air con. I ll have to start checking the wiring diagrams to try and find what colour the wires are that I m looking for.

On a 2WD the reverse light switch goes into a multi connector.
On my 4x4 it is definitely in that posn. Black/Blue and Black wires - Pg 43 & 44 of drawings bottom left is gearbox switch. Heads down a plastic looking tube behind engine towards gearbox. David
Thanks very much for the replies everyone. I m still not having any luck. I ve searched everywhere around the bulkhead above the engine both left side and right without sucess....
I have the plastic tube thing you mentioned it goes to the gearbox switch but I still don t have anything to plug it into.
I ll have another search on wednesday but it very infuriating spending hours searching without results !
I ll keep you posted.
Still no luck ! I m having à really bad time with the car at the moment, can t get it running right, no reverse light, abs light on and no rev counter on the dash (but I have it in the Iaw monitor).
anyhow could some kind soul please tell me : where the reverse switch connector plugs into the loom above the engine bay what colour wire are they the other side of the connector ? Still blue/Black and Black ??? Where do the wire head off to in the loom ? Towards the fuse box or towards the passenger side ????
thanks in advance, I am beggining to suspect that the previous owner cut the connector and taped the wires back into the loom wrongly believing the connector was to do with air con or something.
cheers
Fantastic ! Thanks very much. After studying the wiring diagrams for quite a while they should be blue/Black and Black on both sides of the connector but what I really need to know now is where do they go ? Back to fuse box or back to passenger side footwell.
cheers !
Hi, sorry I forgot to reply to this. I had a look at mine at the weekend. Mine being a right hand drive has a blue/black and a black wire go into the loom towards the fuse box. The black/blue is an ignition switched live and the black is return from the reverse switch going to the rear light clusters which I believe has a wire going down each side of the car to the rear
Hi all
I ve finally found it !!!!!!
So for futur reference and for the end of the mystery.... my connector was there all along but the previous owner had plugged a diode into it and tapped it into the loom ... posibly thinking that it was à connector for à diode (they are the same connectors).
also what didn t help is that it is on the opposition side of the engine bay compared to à right hand drive cossie.
On left hand drive the connector on the loom is above the brake fluid reservoir in front of the driver.
Here is a photo !
Anyhow many thanks to everyone and thanks for your time and trouble of taking the photos for me !
cheers !
