Hi Iv read through other posts regarding this and there all quiet old with lots of horror story’s! I’m getting an rs at the weekend but need to get a new cam and followers. Think I’m going for a Newman with there solid followers. Are these the best or should I just put standard replacement in?

i lve always used piper 285t or 285t2 in cvh engines mate..

 

The Newman cam is spot on mate… but be prepared to spend hours Upon hours setting the followers… and don't forget to order a holding tool.

 

I'm running a Kentcam cvh34, done about 30k with no issues

 

Had Piper 285T fitted about 14 years ago. Something wasn't right. Cam follower not hardened, chewed up that and the cam going from garage to my house!
They gave me a new one which I decided to fit myself, a real bonus since there was half an inch of metal through my newly rebuilt engine?
Seemed to get away with with it given the compression tests showed everything fine. I wonder how when I fitted a new sump given the shards in the old one!
Can't say how it performs as I've never driven it since 2001 other than lmpy as f--- on idle.
Car is 'almost' ready to back on the road see we will see.
I have a Burton Stage 3 head in the cupboard with a Power Engineering 284 or something cam which good good reviews so might swap out the Piper
for that,
