hi there i just brought a mk4 xr3i cabby and it needed a new fuel pump witch ive had done its been running fine til now.
it wont run on idle its the cvh engine and for the life of me i cant think what it could be so looking for some help.

 

Like I mentionend in the other thread: make sure it's the right fuel pump.

Change the fuel filter. K-Jetronic is very sensitive when it comes to fuel pressure and an old filter might cause a lot of problems.

Does it run fine but just cuts out on idle? Then check the ignition (6° unleaded) and try to rise the idle speed (screw on top of the throttle body).

There's only one fuel pump that fits as the Escort 4 had plug-on terminals, most others had screw-on.

Bosch 0580254941. And do yourself a favour and buy ONLY Bosch parts. Aftermarket pumps often cause trouble.

Capri 2,8i, Escort 3 and Sierra 1 had 0580464125
Granada 2 2.8i had 0580254975

Escort 4 is the most expensive, Bosch at aftermarket dealers ~210 Euro; Granada 2 costs about 220 Euros; Capri/E3/S1 is the cheapest with 80 Euros.

You can use the cheaper Capri/E3/S1 pump, just have to modify your wiring a little bit.
