Default Ford escort cosworth 1996

Hey all.

I was looking for some advice:

i am looking at a escort cosworth has been modified but I know hardly anything about what’s been done I believe running roughly 460bhp the only thing is car comes with no service history at all.

Been kept in a garage and done roughy 38k miles and is good condition.

Can anyone give me a rough idea what sort of value (I know very very basic info just don’t want my pants pulled down!!!!)

Always wanted one but concerned as no paperwork as previous owner has lost all.

I do know car had thousands spent on it as knew owner from 10+ years ago and love to get for right price.

Also can anyone recommend somewhere I could take to someone trustworthy to get fully serviced in south east and give me a full lowdown on etc.

TIA

Any pictures or reg...someone might know the car

Unfortunately the price of these has gone up and up but like anything its only worth what people are prepared to pay.

High priced cars that appear on ebay and Facebook and the like that disappear from the adverts are assumed to have been sold for these inflated rates but infact they just get passed around dealers then in turn they reappear with a few more quid on.

Rant over

This is the car it’s off a friend but literally no service history or any paperwork for parts as all lost unfortunately. I know had a lot of money spent over the years on it.

Been in storage for last 5 years and is sorn. It runs etc and believe in good shape.

Any rough info what would be worth with no service history etc.

Thanks for all your help 👍

Ok, if my eyesight is correct its a rare colour in Auralis blue....comp alloys, big brakes on the front, morrettes...all add up but really you need to get under it....in it...check it throughout.

There was one knocking about mid August very similar for sale but could of been a scam on ebay just using pictures as thats common at the moment.

Stick to YOUR budget and see how it goes.....pm me if you want what he's asking...I'm definitely no expert...or have alook on the escort cosworth owners forum....might even know the car

There's plenty of info on the net....not 100% but I seem to think some of these in this colour stated white on the colour tag not Auralis...could be dreaming that though...interior also...leather or cloth

It’s had suede with blue pipping fitted randomly. I Definitely need to go check it out as have such limited info and knowledge on it. Number plate is RS K1D which it quite cool and imagine that would be worth a few quid on its own. Just don’t want to get one that’s going be full of issues. Any recommendations of what should look out for other then oil leaks and chassis number?
Thanks all for you help as you can tell I am a real novice lol

No worries......if you own a cossie it will cost you money. Unfortunately they are all old and if not maintained be it bushes, misfires or a missing bit of trim there will be something needed.

If you go into ownership with this in mind it wont be such a downer, I'd been around them for years and knowing this I've enjoyed every moment of mine.

Interesting reg but the interior could be a bargaining point as it sounds abit max power era.

Id guess a good replacement interior will be around Ł1k??

Depends on what you want to do, i spent the 1st year returning mine back to standard and I'm glad i did as i like oe look.

Keep us updated.

Thanks again! Will have a look at above, not expecting brand new and will need to take to a garage for a full check over and bits to be done. Thanks for idea of how much to get interior back to original as would much prefer that! Can you guys recommend or know a specialist in the Sussex area or surrounding area as that will be first trip if I end up getting it.

Really if you do not know much yourself, you need a full HPI check, and probably best to pay an independent specialist of some sort to have a good look at the car

Prices have went mental over recent years/months....that bubble is bound to burst at some point. But you're right in the middle of the massively overinflated prices. You'd want to make sure at least that what you're buying is a decent and safe car so it might stand a chance of holding some value in 5, 10, maybe 15 years

previous owner mentions it here back in 2012 https://www.escortrscosworth.com/for...resprays/page4

which links back to here https://passionford.com/forum/restor...pg-15-a-7.html

and skimming through that thread seems link the user name of an owner on here was RSTurboTrev and he is a car sprayer. last posting 2013.

keep digging....

My advice would be if possible take someone with you who has had an Escos or has a very good knowledge of them. They will know what to look for in terms of potential problems. Also for what it costs get a full HPI check done as others have suggested. Modifications on a Cosworth YB engine have to have been done by a specialist who has the expertise to do it properly. It is a pity that there is no paperwork available but if the seller knows who did the work it may be possible they will still have a record of what was done. As to its value it will be worth less because of the non standard interior and lack of history. See what the seller wants for it and form your own opinion of what YOU think its worth. Good Luck with it, hopefully you may grab a good car for a bargain price!!!
