New Car Blues
Hey all,
I just joined up, I bought my first cossie last week, Moonstone Blue 3dr. I bought it from an older owner who never drove it essentially once a month and nursed it around, which is probably the problem.
Cold start was pretty rough when I got it and the owner commented on that too when he had it.
After about 30 miles of driving the car started to emit condensation on idle, when warm for example in stationary traffic. It was losing coolant too, so I whipped out the plugs and cylinder 1 was wet.
The car has a metal head gasket and ARP studs so I took off the cam cover and retorqued them to 120nm. Car started the best it has from cold and I took it for a drive, after about 20 mins into the drive the car was smoking the worst it has when stationary, to the point it was embarrassing, also had a bad smell to it like oil.
Regardless I nursed it back to the workshop, it smoked all the way when stopped, when i got there the plumes of smoke had stopped but it was still doing the coolant condensation. Also a note the expansion tank cap was hissing. I whipped out the plugs and cylinder 1 was wet again.
Likely ive driven it harder than he has which has caused it (although its standard boost and I never took it above 4-5000 rpm.)
I have ordered a group a gasket for it, and head kit from Burtons, new timing belt and tensioner. As this is my first Cosworth, are there any hints or tips I should be doing/looking for? Are there any workshop manuals for replacing the head gasket/timing belt?
Thanks,
