Default Finally back in a ford

So I finally got another ford (I'm still hunting for two more that I want)
This came up just before Christmas cheeeeeap. I paid $250 for it, straight rust free rolling shell. No engine and box which I don't mind as I want to put a different engine in once I decide what route I want to go. Its a 1985 ford Merkur xr4ti. It was a 2.3 turbo engine but the previous owner kept the box/engine and I had the rest, he added loads of spares inside which was a bonus. Surprised it was this cheap, would have been a lot more if it was rhd in the UK.

How it was when the previous owner picked it up.

Paint is flat but I plan on having it resprayed eventually once its back running.

Day it was picked up in Nevada before being transported across the country to me.

In one of my storage units now, needs a clean and that window tint removing/binning very quickly.

I plan on maxxing out the speedo very quickly and probably the turbo gauge depending what engine setup I go for.

I've thought so far about the following engine choices:

5.3 vortec v8 engine
audi 5 cylinder
audi v10 engine
lexus v8

All of those should go in without any major issues from what I've seen, biggest issue might be the v10 length but even that I don't think would be the end of the world.

Gearbox is more of a pressing issue currently. Trying to work out what would be the best route.

Lexus - I've heard a bmw box would be reliable, cheap and easy to match up a rear diff.
the audi stuff is more complicated as I could use a quattro box converted to rwd. Annoyingly my 6 speed v8 box is still in the UK otherwise i'd have tried it in the hole

Thanks Mate I'll have to get one up when I start on it. I'm still buying parts for a few other projects currently so hopefully get started on this soon. I've just bought half a audi coupe to store ready to start building a sport quattro. Shocked at just how much that project is likely to cost me.

1.5-2k for the body panels
1k for the rear side windows
1.5k for the donor car for the front doors

and thats without getting too much into the cost of stuff, then there's the carbon non sunroof skin. But thats a serious long term project to go with my 944, turbo coupe quattro and other one's.

I think the first thing with this is to get an engine/box in and start getting it running so I can do the bodywork side of things after.

Its surprising, I've seen quite a few of them for sale for absolute peanuts. This was cheap, the shipping was eye watering

I think there's a guy in the york area doing this currently. I've not looked into using one of them, my friend with the v8 twin turbo coupe quattro keeps saying I should put a 5.0 coyote engine in it.
