Is a 500bhp Saph Coss drivable as a daily?
Hello all
Haven't been on here for a long while and haven't owned a Cossy for even longer.
Had a 250bhp 2wd drive about 15 year's ago which was quite impressive in it's own rights. Have been looking at getting back into them once again (at about 10 times the price) and thinking wether its worth it?
Ive seen one or two at the 500bhp mark and wondering what these would be like as a normal "30mph run to the shops" kinda car? Drive like a normal car, or run rough as shit coz they only like to be driven above 50mph in 3rd gear and the likes. Don't want it to be hunting for revs under normal use.
Any thoughts or suggestions on wether to get something like this?
Thanks

To give you a better idea of what im trying to ask, please allow me to give you my current situation at the moment.
I own 2 car's, a 2008 Mercedes S600 (5.5, V12, Bi-Turbo, 515bhp) which I can simply get in, start up and pootle around in all day at 20mph without any driveability issues. Then be in a hurry and drive it at 120mph without any problems either.
The other one is a 2004 Subaru Imprezas STi (2.0, 4 cylinder, Tuebo, 480bhp). Now this is a completely different story, mainly because it was prepared for the track and then never actually went on one, and I bought it to use as a fast road car. If I want to drive this one then get in, start up, wait 10 minutes to warm up properly, hates being driven in low gear's or at really low speeds, feels like it's going to stall, the whining noise from the high pressure fuel pump in the boot is the only thing I can hear, which is a bit pointless as I primarily bought it for that Impreza exhaust burble. As a matter of fact my mates 350bhp Impreza is a much better drive. The last point of this car being that pretty much 80% of the power just comes in as soon as I get it past 3,000rpm, quite exhilarating but a bit crap below that.
Soooo, much like the Impreza, the Cossy will only come out once in a blue moon but the question is this . . . . Just how close will the 500bhp Cossy be to the Impreza? Or am better just sticking to a stock car or even limiting power to 350-400bhp?
Thanks
Thanks for the reply Sir. Seen your good name mentioned in a few threads recently when I've been looking through the forum trying to do my homework. If everything falls into place then I'm sure I'll be using your services at some point.

which is a normal road car rather than a noisy
Bad riding beast.
Mark
So if I bought the Cossy and it turned out to be a "noisy bad riding beast", would you be able to sort it out to a certain degree to make it more driver friendly?
Basically, is there light at the end of the tunnel if it's not how I like it?
Mark
But if it turns out to be a crap ride and it can be changed to how I like it whilst retaining the power, then I guess that was the answer I was looking for.
Lets just hope it can be fairly "easily" done as you say.
Thanks for your help so far.

Brilliant. My biggest concern was that I was going to be stuck with more or less what I bought.

Ring mark and get him to give you some ballpark figures on management, turbo, engine/engine spec and any other add on parts you may need for the build
Cheers Paul
Thanks Paul, could do with speaking to someone who's in the game. But while finding this out the one I was really interested in got sold. Damn it, kicking myself for that one.
But like I said earlier, back in the days when I had mine the power limit seemed about 350bhp. Now there's a few at 500bhp, that was just not feasible back then. So now these 30 year old cars have the same amount of power as today's Supercars, just seems that they won't come without their own problems. If that makes sense!

Imo circa 380 is good for fast road.
I suspect 500 HP is expensive, as you must need a 200 block to start with (probably long studded) and that's before you sort the chassis, brakes and transmission.
Technology has moved on though with twin scroll, roller bearing turbos and modern management etc, so imagine they would be easier to live with now.
Most seem to like Borg Warner turbo's from what I have seen.
I would question reliability though, given the reality it's 250 HP per litre, assuming the displacement remains the same.
