Default Power steering - bubbling fluid

Hi all,

Mite be a simple one for someone, ive got my suspicions but i thought id run it past you lot.

Replaced the bottom larger power steering hose from the reservoir to the metal pipe.

Refilled the fluid, ran it up...gave the steering wheel a move about...topped it up alittle.

That was 2 days ago....

Started it today, drove it up and down the drive, popped the bonnet and let it idle.

Then this laboured noise from the lower front of car started.....sounds like the steering pump.

Turned the wheel, it got louder but then the dark red pas fluid was flowing from the valve on top of the reservoir
cap but it was frothing and bubbling and it stank.

Turned the car off and waited for it to stop, slowly releasing the cap tjere was no pressure just a thin layer of bubbles.

Im guessing the pumps packed up and the fluids just cooked??

Any confirmation or ideas....

Cheers

Did you bleed the system? Cap off and turning the wheels lock to lock with engine running?

I did but didnt realise that was the bleeding process 🤣

Refilled the fluid, ran it up...gave the steering wheel a move about...topped it up alittle then replaced the cap..

Is it still making a noise when you turn the steering wheel? If it is the pump is probably knackered,as they only have to run dry for a very short time to damage them.

Sounds like everything should be ok now, better than having to get a new pump!
