I'm gonna be in the market for a couple of tyres very soon. Now in recent years I've always bought tyres online with a fully fitted price. However I've noticed that buying tyres and having them delivered to your house is obviously cheaper. So how much does a garage typically charge to fit tyres and supply new valves and to carry out balancing?
How much does it cost to dispose of the old tyres?
Do garages get funny about fitting tyres you haven't bought through them or their partners?
Is there a decent saving to be made doing it this way?
Now without wanting to get in to a big debate about which tyres are best an example of what I'm looking at is:
255 35 r18 uniroyal rainsport 3 fully fitted price from one of my local dealers is £236 for 2 tyres.
The same two tyres from camskill are £185 including delivery.
So is it likely to cost me £51 to get two tyres fitted and balanced with new valves and also to dispose of the old ones?

 

Garage I use charge me £10 each one, but that is mates rates, I think it's usually about 25 quid a go. Ring around some local tyre fitting places and get some prices first, my place will usually match camskill prices, then there is no quibble on the fitting.

Oh and why rainsports? They are awful, massively overrated!

 

Just had a pair of Toyo TR1 (the new ones) fitted to my car that I bought from ebay/Demon Tweeks £120 a pair 225/40x18

Local Bush tyres charged me £20 the pair to fit. Bush tyres wanted £90 a tyre on their website.

We had a bit of banter about buying them from elsewhere and they said they'd be able to match the online price next time I wanted some tyres.

 

I use a mobile tyre fitter who I have known for a long time, he has a large Merc van with all the gear on-board to fit and balance either your own supplied tyres or tyres you can buy from him at really good prices.He fitted my track day tyres and for my wifes car and my daily I get him to supply and fit the tyres. He charges £5 for disposing of your old tyres. I am pretty sure he would give you a good price to fit your tyres and he is always careful not to scratch and damage your alloys Not sure where you live but he is based in Southampton.

 

I've just compared fitted verses not fitted on tyres I had recently.

From Asda tyres delivered to and fitted by F.1.

£16.80 per tyre difference for fitting, disposal, balance (alloys with stick on weights) that would have included fitting new valves but I supplied new Tyre pressure monitors with new valves which they fitted and would have paired them but I declined them doing it.

 

best value for money good tyres with fitting is from costco got a full set not that long ago of michelin pilot sport 4s for under 400 fitted and size was 225/40/18, had nothing but issues with rainsport 3s never again

 

120 quid is cheap especially form demon thieves.

 

I agree with you Glenn, that seems very cheap for 2 performance tyres from Demon Tweeks as their prices are usually quite high. I think he got a bargain!

 

I love my RainSport 3, would only change if I could get the PS4's at the same price but they are a lot more. Also want to go to 235 on mine rather than 225 but that's £20 more per tyre aswell.

 

I found rainsports have a very soft sidewall, you loose a lot of feeling through the steering and they make the car feel almost loose on the road. I had a pair put on the back of my old ST a few years ago, I had to pull over as I thought the garage hadn't done the wheel nuts up. I stick with continentals now, not the cheapest but seem to perform the best overall for grip and longevity.
