High fuel consumption on a 2.0 zetec with bike carbs and carb fitting issues
Hi all,
I’ve just signed up on this forum because I’m having some issues with my MK4 Escort.
First I will provide some info about the car. The car is running a 2.0 zetec from a MK1 Mondeo combined with carbs from a zx6r. 38mm if I’m correct. There also is a intake manifold from Danstengineering and a Facet fuelpump with a Malpassi petrol king petrol regulator. The ignition is tunable using a Nodiz module.
The problem I’m having it is using a lot of fuel, too much I believe. 19mpg on a good day...
So I went searching the forum for some information about the correct setup.
I’ve found a few specs which I applied. The carbs have 157.5 main jets. The air screw was turned all the way in and then screwed 3 turns out. The gasneedle clips are in the middle position. The fuel pressure should not be more than 2.0 psi. I’ve turned the pressure regulator all the way back and there is a fuel pressure gauge on its way as we speak. I’ve pulled a sparkplug and it was pitch black.
I’m not expecting a hypermiler with 80mpg or something, but I’ve read that 45mpg is posible with the same setup.
I’m wonder if someone knows how to achive this?
I’m also facing some problems with the intake rubber which sits between the carbs and the intake manifold. This is currently a simple silecone tube. The carbs keeps popping out and they won’t stay in their place. The vacuüm sucks them in so I’m not to worried that they completely fall of while driving, but they may suck some extra air inside and I don’t want any fuel leaks. I tried to put some O-rings around the carbs to simulate the collar which normally sits in the bike-intakerubber, unfortunately without succes. Does someone have a solution for this?
Please let me know!
Best regards,
Corné
