Cheers. Plan at the moment is to get it running and drivable, give it a good wash then possibly put it in for an m.o.t after look at doing an engine swap. Arrived on a pallet last week a 2.9 v6 bob cosworth engine and t5 gearbox which I would like to fit but may go with a zetec, yet to decide.
First problem found is the ignition, looks like I need a replacement steering column
First task carried out was to give it that much needed wash, in fact it needed lots of washes to make it look presentable. A new ignition switch came up on eBay so I grabbed it which enabled me to start the car and drive it. The rear wheels would only just turn so the drum brakes were stripped down and cleaned, put back together with new slave cylinders and bled. Next was the indicator switch which would only work if held in the right place, again eBay came to the rescue and what we believe is a new switch was purchased and fitted. The battery needed to be secured and it was ready for an m.o.t test
On Friday 27th September at 3.30pm the test started, I had no expectation of a pass and expected a long list of work to do. Once the test was completed I braced myself for the bad news but was informed that it had only failed on corrosion to one sill ( advisory's were one tyre and the front indicator )
The welding was done at the m.o.t garage this morning and a retest carried out so it has been declared fit for the road
Just go for the bob V6. You will get more power out of that compared to a zetec
depends what were talkn really are we talkn warn out old engines or new builds? a v6 will have more grunt but its heavy engine from a zetec like.. really depends on budget you have

With my budget it is going to be old engines!! I could drop in a st170 or focus RS engine as I have both spare and some of the other parts required but my escort and focus already have zetec engines in them, my other escort has a yb ( none of them running yet ) so I really fancy doing something different, was looking at the 3.0 v6 from a Jaguar s type which is lighter but the cosworth v6 came up for sale cheap and should be easier to install
like my other projects I do not plan on taking things too seriously, just have a bit of fun
I have been using the car for the last few days, it always starts first time but is not running that good and the clutch needs replacing. The biggest problem though is the fact the passenger side fills up with water.
The seats were removed along with the centre console and lower dash, the carpet is now in the bath drying, the underlay is rotten so is being ripped out and thrown away, plan was to strip it out anyway because "race car"
The hole has now been welded up but water is still getting in but nowhere near as much, pictures to follow
Before increasing the power the rear axle needed to be upgraded so I have removed the Cosworth 2wd axle with its 7.5" lsd diff from my Escort and put it under this car but not before fitting a solid diff mount, have had some used coilovers in storage for a while and thought they would be best used on this car so on they went. Brakes and new wheels to fit yet as ran out of daylight
Bought some used callipers and fitted them with EBC discs and pads, changed the brake hoses to braided and fitted new handbrake cables, after a couple of attempts I got them bled and working ok
As the rear axle was bought complete and collected I was not sure if there was any oil in the diff. The plug was impossible to undo so I removed the rear cover, it was full of oil but had no sealant gasket!!
A bit of butchery got the old plug out and its all now refitted with sealant, new oil and plug.
Also fitted some new wheels and tyres, the centre caps do not fit so will need to fit wheel spacers to clear the hub nut

Car has not changed, the last 4 months has seen very little progress on this car or my others. Realised only a couple of weeks ago that it had not moved for some time so changed the oil and battery and have been using it to get to work.
An engine swap is unlikely to happen at the moment but I still plan to fit the T5 gearbox just waiting for the hydraulic clutch conversion kit to arrive then I can crack on.
