Default Updated alarm system

with more and more classic cars getting stolen these days I thought it could be time to update the alarm on the Cossie for something a bit more up to date that will give better protection.

Any recommendations on what alarms are good and worth the money as it's protection I'm after not gimmick.

Not an alarm but a modified disklock will help.

With the blackjax I think you have to put in a PIN number with x minutes of driving orbthe car just stops, I wonder if that would become a pain? Great idea though as the crim drives off without any grief with you if they nick the keys but they then get stranded not far away. I have considered it.

the thing I don’t like with many modern systems is the manufacturer is after a monthly or annual subscription. I was looking at the home hive systems and they are the same.

Just my two penny worth, remembering the picture of a stolen Cossie on the back of a flat bed truck on this site, an alarm might only warn of theft, how long does a Black Jack give before a pin is required?

‘I think it is user defined. The problem with someone taking the car on a flat bed is that once they get the car to a safe place they will strip out the alarm in no time.

Blackjax pulses down the ignition, sounds the siren and flashes lights to draw attention and bring the thieves to a slow stop. The good thing is they could ask you for the pin and they wouldn’t know it was false until too late.

The alarm in my car is over 20 years old and I'm no electrical wise kid but even I managed to bypass it and get the car started a few weeks ago which makes me think if I can do it that quickly, how easy is it and quick would a professional car thief that knows what there doing to to get round it and drive off in the car.

This is the reason I'm thinking its well overdue a more sophisticated setup that makes it a bit harder to bypass.

Have looked on the internet and one person recommends one system while another says they are crap, so no real idea what is worth having fitted and what just a waste of money.

The way I see it is that if it can be made to work by a human then it can be defeated by a human. The car only needs power to all systems after all. It is just the time it might take for a thief to overcome it and the noise made.

mechanical devices such as disklock are good additional deterants but not a lot can beat a determined thief with a grab lorry.

i am using detachable steering wheel that can be locked to the roll cage along with immobiliser and alarm. Locked garage, gates and cctv. I also put the car up on ramps and lock the ramps sometimes.

Put a map in the ecu with a bit of fuel and the timing 180 degrees out, use it as a storage map. if anyone tries to start that the backfire will wake the whole town up lol

Clifford BlackJax 5 - Anti-Carjacking and Vehicle Self Recovery System

Clifford BlackJax is Clifford`s unique anti-carjacking response system that puts personal safety first while using innovative advancements to ensure that users can recover the vehicle themselves. If an armed car thief approaches - whether at a stop light or in a parking lot (where most carjackings occur) - immediately turn over the keys and remote and let Clifford technology take over.

Fully automatic: No buttons or transmitters to push when a gun is involved. Just get away from the vehicle. Quick response: BlackJax allows the criminal to drive away a safe distance. Then a few seconds later BlackJax blares the siren and flashes the lights to alert other drivers and witnesses. It then pulses down the ignition system to safely force the vehicle to slow to a complete stop. Siren blaring and lights flashing unable to restart the engine the carjacker has no choice but to abandon the vehicle.

Immediate vehicle self-recovery: With the vehicle immobilized a short distance away the owner can recover it. No special tracking units monthly fees or per-use charges. Just follow the sound of the BlackJax siren then enter the PIN code. That`s it - it`s sabotage-proof. The only way to turn off BlackJax is with a secret user-selectable PIN code. If the carjacker tries guessing codes at random BlackJax actively ignores his code entries for the next few minutes.

Any alarm is only as good as the installation. You could spend a grand plus on the all singing all dancing system but if its thrown in its as good as useless. I'd be looking at installers at the same time as alarms.

I've always had Clifford and had them fitted properly - never had issue across various cars.
