I’d be very careful if it don’t have a proper swirl pot in it you can get issues. I put one in mine with a metal swirl pot design in it. Mine did have 500bhp at the time but with the new tank it surged its arse off.

Yeah I'm a little weary of them at this point. I'm not too sure of an ideal alternative either.

i think there’s lots out there who use them with no issues just have it in mind. I had to fit a separate swirl pot to mine to fix the issue

Thanks Andy for confirming what I have said on another thread about these tanks.

There was a genuine one on eBay for Ł650 which for a rare part isn't that bad esp due to the value of the cars going up.

You can resolve this by buying some built hamber deox C powder.

Mix with hot water and fill the tank leave for a few days and slosh it about the rust will go. Then fill with fuel.

I can't get the product mentioned here in NZ. I can get a POR 15 3 stage fuel tank repair kit though. It has a cleaning solution, a metal prep solution and a tank sealer. has anyone tried this?
https://www.por15.com/POR-15-Fuel-Tank-Repair-Kit
I'm not sure how the sealer will go with the swirl pot though.

Ah yes NZ could be a problem. There are many other solutions used to remove rust and won't affect plastic give it a Google vinegar can be used.

At work we deal with a lot of vintage tanks which on some occasions we just rinse out and reuse due to cost and time. The fuel filter will pick up 98% of any rust.
Any chance of a picture to see how rusty it is?

Maybe get the tank chemically dipped if possibly and re galvanised as I am sure this was done when manufactured.??

Just looked you can get it from Aus as it's listed on eBay there.

Bilt hamber deox-c

Hopefully you can get some it's really good for other components too.

Yes but prevention is better than cause.
I would not risk it due to the price of a engine build.

Mine has a swirl pot in the boot along with the pump that feeds the rail. Certainly not everyone’s cup of tea but mines far too modified now to worry lol

looks neat Andy. I have been running my Cortina like that for many years (before I took it apart) with no issues.
Did you use the std pump to fill? I am using a Holley blue.

My swirl pot is fed by an 044 the swirl pot now feeds the pump m.a.d recommend for big horse power. My after market tank surged its arse off first time it came on boost lol. As above it ran with no issues. I only changed my tank as I got the new one and had dash fittings welded on

I know you are probably not to but do not use the POR 15 in an original tank because it is a coating which seals the tank and will clog up the internal filter which sits in the middle of the plastic swirl pot,
the pattern tanks don’t seem to have an internal filter.

something like this, I searched my pictures as I’ve saved one from an escos but couldn’t find it

as you’ll see from the description there’s a -6 feed from your lift pump to fill the pot, -6 return from the pot to your main tank, -8 feed from the pot to your fuel rail/extra pump then a -6 for the return fuel from the outlet of your fuel rail

I considered one under my car but there isn’t that much space under a saff. And as mine will never go to the shops shopping my only interest in it is how quick I can get it so went with the one I have. Plus as I got to pick the dash fittings it supplies the pump that feeds the rail with a dash 10 as they do out the tank. And the feed into the swirl from the 044 is dash 8 as it is to my fuel rail. Mine was an after fault that only came about because of the after market tank

Bigger the better eh. So much info on the net it's sometimes difficult to know which way to go.

I will be running -6 in mine which will be fine for my power level.

Your running a aeromotive pump so they need bigger lines.

I was going to use the aeromotive but now using this as it fuels big power same size an 044 and 200 quid. Mines -6 return from iver end of the rail

you need to look at pressure drop over a distance as well as fuel flow. A 600hp engine ideally needs -8 supply -6 will work but -8 is more suited.

It can be a confusing subject that's for sure.

Well I am only going to be at around 500bhp so mine will be ok.

I wouldn't want anymore in a Cortina.!!!!
