I have a 1993 1.6 sierra that has been heavily modified apart from the brakes, i need to get at least a 4 pot brake upgrade for track use only, any recommendations, i see Willwood do a kit.

 

I think the Standard Cossie set up with decent pads (Reyland sell them) and decent discs would work well for the weight. What sort of power are you at?

OR cossie calipers and extenders to fit the big brake kits (as per Reyland) - I had these on my 469bhp 205 4x4 Cos was fine on this setup.

 

it's claimed at 400bhp, base 1.6 model sierra with a nissan Sr20det, i tried willwood but the guy i spoke to bored me so i hung up, lol

 

Reyland is great for these kits. MT motorsport may also have some options.


I used the upgraded pads, standard single piston calipers and then the big brake discs. MK Motorsport made me adapter and bells with the discs and they are the same as Reyland spec I believe.

4 pots will always look good but not always needed.

 

Compbrake or high spec would be the cheaper options.

or you can use a focus St 170 300mm disc and use almost any 4 pot with a suitable bracket.

Mk 1 focus RS runs 320mm discs and again a caliper of your choice.

you would need cossie hubs for cossie 4 pots and 283mm std discs. Unless you opt for a 300mm disc cossie 4 pots and a suitable bracket.

Soooo many options.

 

i have found a pair of brembo 4 pot calipers from a bmw 740, can these be used if i can use a bracket or is it a case of just test fitting and having a bracket made

 

I think you would need to mod a bracket. Some Brembo are radial mounted but not sure on the 740.

It may be worth asking DinglaRS on here 1) he is breaking a fast focus running Cossie stuff and I THINK it was him who fitted and supplied Range Rover sport brakes to someone (I may be wrong on who it was)

 

Yes I normally use mdf to make a mock up bracket then have it machined.

I do all sorts of stuff like this at work. We use HI spec, wilwoods all sorts really.

just a case of a little research and mock up. Big brakes can be had for very little money if you put the time in.

 

if i sent you a hub with discs and caliper could you make it up for me?

 

It's depending on which knuckles you are using. But for the 2wd cosworth knuckles you can get adapters to use the 4 pot Brembo calipers off a BMW E38 728i with 324 mm Focus RS mk1 discs.


But of course it all depends on how much room there is inside your wheels. I made my own kit using 4 pot Brembo calipers off a Mercedes S Class and 356 mm discs.

 

As Marc has said you would need to see what wheel clearances you have and offset of wheels plays a big part.
I have to use focus RS 18" wheels on my cortina due to size of brakes.

It's not just disc hub and caliper it would require wheel and upright. It's easier to do on car.
Search on eBay for caprisport, I personally don't like the bloke but some of his stuff is reasonably priced

 

what size wheels did you use? i'm running 17"

 

I have the 356 mm discs in 17" Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels. But before this I used to have 17" TSW Hockenheims and those had much less space. The biggest I could go with those was 320 mm discs with the standard single pot calipers. So there can be huge differences between one 17" wheel and another 17" wheel. It really depends on what type of wheel you have.
