That's insane, wonder how long it will be until it is beaten again?
Think the last record was 35 years and people said not to try break it out of respect for the person who set it as he was killed a couple of years afterwards.
Just goes to show you what cars can do when they have the restrictions taken off them from whatever championship they're in.
That Porsche 919 beat Lewis Hamilton's lap record at Spa earlier this year.
I wonder how fast an F1 car could go round the 'ring if there were no FIA limitations?
I know what you mean but an F1 car wouldnt be an F1 car without the fia regs, I.e. they would look very different with different Engine and much more aero, I suspect 1500 / 2000 bhp with big capacity, large turbo hybrid with loads of aero and different tyres. Some of the big supercars manaufacturers are making stuff that will lap a track quicker than an Le Mans prototype.
F1 cars are artificially restricted by fuel flow, boost, engine RPM, and air orifice size limits, not to mention electricity harvesting and redeployment limits. Remove these and theyd go like greased weael shot, although they wouldnt last more than kne race. Within the size and placement specs set by the FIA teams can do what they like with aero, and they do.
