Default Exh. Manifold Fouling Sump

ZVH engine so CVH (n/a) Magnex manifold and Zetec silvertop sump.

Clearly twatted the road a few too many times and so the manifold is now sitting against the corner of the sump and is making a horrible resonance at certain RPM (not to mention probably sending a fuck load of heat into my oil).

I can lever it away from the sump with a pry bar and wedged some exhaust wrap in there but the tiny vibrations just wear through this in no time. Went out and bought a 5tonne ratchet/tie-down strap and used this Friday morning (after a run so the system was nice and hot) to pull the manifold away from the sump. This created a good ~1cm gap all round and have left it like that for the last 2 days hoping the manifold might at least take "some" of the form it was being held in.
Released the strap just now and of course its just pinged back where it started

Anyone got any thoughts as to what the hell else i can try?

Cars a daily so whipping the sump off and getting the corner cut/tigged is not an option (plus reducing sump capacity etc isnt where i want to go for what is essentially an "annoying vibration") and the Manifold is fine other than this so again don't want to be buying new either.

Sounds like you need to buy a new sump and have it modded ready and swap in a day. MK motorsport just made me a big wing cossie sump, I wonder if you need to big wing it to allow you to cut off the other bit?

I think you need to use the strap to pull it away probaly a little more than you feel comfortable with and see how much it springs back or , if you can get hold of a set of gas bottels you could get some proper heat into them?

I was thinking heat plus strap too if i can do it without melting too much around it
I've got a blowtorch (Rothenberger so a decent torch) and a load of MAP gas but i was thinking this won't really touch it or would i be wrong? Havent got any access to oxy which i imagine would be the ideal

Surely an unbashed one in original shape from a breakers would not be very expensive?

Just take to a garage and get them to cut nearly all the way through it and that should give you enough to bend it and get the garage to weld it up again

Cheers paul

To fix it properly is the way to go as mentioned but as your daily or maybe pressed for time I'd give the map gas ago it should get the pipe cherry and enough for a little tweek !

A mate of mine had a N/A ZVH, he chopped the sump to make his fit. Last time I was at his he still has the sump on the shelf wanting to sell it.
