Looking at putting the suspension back on my car
So thought I would look if all was ok
My plan is to put back on the Koni dampers with a new set of Ahmed springs
I’m running a MK 6 deg beam
Car is purely a road car
My question is
The rear shocks with both set the same I can push down a lot easier on one shock compared to the other
And
Have do the front Koni struts have dust covers to protect any ingress of dirt
I’m toying with coilovers but for a road setup a lot rate the Koni and Ahmed setup

Sounds like you need to speak to koni about a refurb or replace them....Or maybe they are adjustable, some you twist the body to stiffen them

But one seems slot more free
Is it time for coilovers or buy new koni’s
Heard good and bad about Koni but when there right they seem a good setup

I think the setup you already have is liked by a lot of people. The problem with coilovers is that there are a lot of rubbish ones out there that are either just too stiff or not designed well. I suspect a good set will transform the car.

Might be worth looking up jonfoc on here and see what he thinks, he does a lot of work with Leda. I think Mark at MK said he was quite impressed with gaz gold for the money but Dave Wedge was not a fan. Exectc was recommended to me for big budget stuff and I think ohlins would be more than Ł1000 per corner.

 

Done a lot of research and I think I’m going to stick with the Koni & bajoo spring setup but buy a new set so I know all is good
For road it has good reviews
Just need to look for some dust covers as mine were missing and don’t want new shocks to start leaking

 

Koni set up is better for a road car unless you spend a ot of dosh on decent coilovers as above you are looking at 1000's

No the koni front shocks do not have top dust caps over the adjustment knob.

Rears are adjustable in 3 positions by pulling the plastic sleeve done and pressing a button in the top of shock body and twisting.

I have had Gaz coilovers on mine and it was the worst money I ever spent.
I refitted my Konis and always used std springs.

I’m not referring to dust cap on the adjuster
It’s the gaitor that protects the rod
It looks like mine had been cut on the base where the springs fit
I think at some point it’s had a set of big wheels on it

Konis need the spring cup modded to fit 18" wheels

I've just bought a new set of konis for my escort and also got a set of ahmed springs as they were highly recommended. They are also supposed to only drop the car -10 and that may not be enough for me. So I've also bought a set of cobra springs on recommendation which drop the car -30
God only knows what I'll stick with lol

you will get away without mods on a 215 tyre .as soon as i went 225 they fouled the spring cup on my saff

 

I'd stick with the konis tried and tested and rated for a long time, I needed coilovers for my conversion Ahmed went to Gaz and respecced my golds valve packs and springs I think still in the box last thing he did for me bless him
