Default Scrapping a car with no V5

Hello all,

Anyone done this? I've heard I just need to inform the DVLA in writing, but not sure which address is correct to send it to. Also, I don't fancy calling them with a £6 connection fee. Robbing fuckers.

The car has already gone, and the logbook is not where I thought I left it.

Can the scrap company complete the Cert of Destruction without the V5?

Cheers!

the scrap company can register it via dvla as destroyed but you still need to inform dvla as my mate just got a £1000 for 2 cars and he had both destruction notices too

Thanks mate,

It appears that they can do it from a form of ID, so I just have to let the DVLA know in writing, which should be fun!

Cannot find an address to send it to via the GOV website. I'm sure they make it difficult so they can stitch people up

Cheers for the help!

Just send things recorded so you've got proof of sending, after that it's not your fault if they lose it then try to blame you.

If you don’t have a log book you must write to DVLA with the:
  • vehicle registration number
  • make and model
  • exact date of sale
  • name and address of the scrapyard or insurance company
DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1BD
