You don't get a choice if it's found.

I have been told there have been a lot of new Focus RS engines fitted already on very low mileage new cars.
The one in this thread had just had its engine replaced!!!

Correct, Subaru did the same when they tried to conker the yank market which resulted in europe getting the chocolate 2.5 engine

Yes there’s cars with less than 5k miles that have had new engines fitted, there are allot of people on YouTube who have videod their progress as I believe some dealers have been less willing to admit the problem.

They're replacing engines just because a HG fails ? Seems a bit extreme unless there was a major design flaw that the new engine is very different

I think its more than just the head gasket failing as whatever it is its destroying the whole engine. If it was a simple fix it would be a lot cheaper than a brand new engine and I am sure this would have happened.I wonder if the replacement engines have had a modification to eliminate the problem?

Just witnessed one with 3000 miles on it going into the dealers. Apparently they pressure test it and if it has gone it either has the head and gasket replaced if it's mega serious or just the head gasket in other cases. To be honest I was half reading my computer and listening at the same time but that's the jist I
Got off the guy, he said they had recalled the lot

Why people buy these when you can see 600+ bhp on the VAG engines with stock internals is beyond me

Probably did as it was a relatively new concept 30 years ago but you’d think they’d know all there is to know about gaskets by now.

The block on the 2.3 ecoboost looks puny

From what i have read in production the wrong gasket has been used (the mustang one). Once gone it can damage the head, and if not seen to quick enough it can also crack the block as well. Hence the replacement engines, all builds before July 2017 will get recalled.

Maybe because most people don't care about the tuning potential of an engine? They care about the factory performance.
